What happens during an autism assessment?

An autism assessment includes a detailed developmental history, parent and school questionnaires, structured observation using validated tools, and a clear written report with recommendations. This is a 3 hour assessment with Dr Joe, which is known as the ADI-R pathway (parents and child). In addition, a 1 hour play based assessment will be booked with an ADOS2 clinician (usually an Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist) with the child alone. The specialists will then hold a Multidisciplinary Team meeting to discuss the findings, before drawing a conclusion. The assessment follows the Gold standard in assessing for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

How are ADHD assessments conducted?

ADHD assessments combine standardised rating scales from parents and teachers (SNAP IV, Conners Questionnaires), a clinical interview, developmental review, and exclusion of other contributing factors before a diagnosis is confirmed. This assessment follows the Gold Standard pathway, which is accepted throughout the UK privately and in the NHS, but also international standards globally.

Can Dr. Joe help with developmental delay?

Yes. Dr. Joe assesses speech, motor, coordination, social and learning delays, identifies underlying causes, and coordinates therapy referrals and ongoing support.

How long are consultations?

Initial consultations typically last 60 minutes. Neurodevelopmental assessments are 1.5-2 hours, Autism/ADHD assessments are 3 hours each, or combined ASD and ADHD assessment can take up to 4 hours. These assessments may be split across sessions to suit the child and parents.

How much does an assessment cost?

Dr Joe charges £300.00 per hour. Please note that for longer assessments like Autism/ADHD additional time is charged for analysis of validated questionnaires, tools, school interviews, and writing the formal report. This will all be explained and transparently before any assessment takes place, so that you are aware of the total cost before any sort of commitment is taken.

Does Dr Joe take private medical insurance (PMI) patients?

Accepted Answer

Yes, some patients are covered by their insurance companies, depending on the insurance provider and their terms and conditions. Dr Joe works with insurance companies like Bupa International, Allianz, Cigna, WPA, and Vitality.
